The short version: we don't keep your photo. The long version is not much longer.
When you pick a photo, your browser shrinks it and sends it to our server, which passes it to the age-estimation model. The model returns a number and where the face is. The photo is discarded the moment that answer comes back. It is not written to disk, not stored in any database, not used to train anything, and not sent to anyone else.
If you type in your real age to get the youthfulness score, that number is used in your browser only. It is never sent to our server or anywhere else.
The first time you use the guesser we set one cookie, ag_vid, containing a random identifier. It exists so we can give everyone five guesses a day rather than letting one script use the whole thing, and it does nothing else — it isn't linked to a name, an email, or anything about you. It lasts up to 400 days and is only set when you actually make a guess, not when you merely visit. Clear it and you become a stranger again.
Alongside it we keep a one-way scrambled version of your connection address (a hash with a secret we hold, which can't be turned back into the address). It exists only to stop someone bypassing the daily limit by deleting the cookie, and every row is deleted within 48 hours.
The model can usually tell when it is looking at someone under 18. When it does, it declines to guess and shows nothing. We don't estimate children's ages, even for fun, and we don't want photos of children sent to us — but if one is, it is discarded exactly like every other photo.
If analytics are enabled, we use Google Analytics with IP anonymisation to count visits and see which parts of the page get used; it sets its own cookies under Google's privacy policy. If advertising is enabled, the ad network's own privacy policy applies to the ad slot. Neither receives your photo, your guess or your real age.
